DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SURGERY-TKMC
1. We have been functioning as a unique department in Thoothukudi medical college since 15 years, with current infrastructure of one professor, six associate professor, twelve assistant professors, and 150 UG students.
2. We have an average OP census -2554 ;IP census -2824 per month and we do all major and minor procedure along with emergency surgeries on all admission days. Day by day census is gradually increasing; we are the tertiary referral center for all government hospital, PHC, private hospitals, villages around a radius of 100 km.
3. We are conducting CME as per university norms on yearly basis, weekly journal club, monthly clinical society meeting, quiz competition for UG students; work shop for CRRI’s and promotes research activity for them which show our interest towards academic activity.
4. Our assistants are well trained in doing bed side ultra sound, bedside intervention procedures, endoscopic techniques and laparoscopic techniques. We have a track record of doing maximum laparoscopic surgeries in government medical college throughout Tamilnadu.
5. We have super specialty departments like surgical oncology, neuro surgery, plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, urology which provides all under one roof treatment to the patients.
6. We have separate elective OT, emergency OT, septic OT, casualty OT, ISCU which provides round the clock service to the patients.
7. We are regularly conducting breast clinic, tumor board, library and future smart classes with net access for instant references.
8. We are conducting afternoon theory classes for 150 UG students, Para medical students. Paramedical students from private hospital are also getting trained by us. 9. PG SEATS SANCTIONED 10 PER YEAR FROM 2018-19.
